Gómez Palacio, Durango (OEM).- Relying on the strategy of caring for virtual babies and simulated wombs, the City Council of Gómez Palacio, through the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF), permanently works with adolescents to raise awareness of the disadvantages of early pregnancy.
Brenda Calderón Carrete, director of the DIF, highlighted that this strategy allows students to reflect on the topic and experience the responsibility of having a child, assigning virtual babies that they must take care of during the time the talk lasts. Likewise, young girls experience the weight of a nine-month pregnancy using a simulated womb.
“Allowing adolescents to have a more real experience of what an unplanned pregnancy means motivates them to dispel their doubts and concerns and make more responsible decisions,” andCalderón Carrete emphasized.
Municipal President Leticia Herrera Ale has instructed the Municipal DIF to apply effective strategies to prevent teenage pregnancy.
During the talks, the circumstances and physical risks that come with an early pregnancy are discussed, in addition to sexually transmitted diseases and the consequences of using contraceptives. It is emphasized that the best decision during this stage is to concentrate on studies and not on having children, urging young people to take care of their bodies and inform themselves appropriately and responsibly on the subject.
