26-year-old Chinese scientist Yingying Zhang disappeared in Illinois in 2017. She was last seen getting into a car, prompting a large-scale search. The case took a dark turn when Brendt Christensen, a former graduate student, admitted the murder to his girlfriend, who was carrying a microphone – he was arrested and charged. Despite extensive searches, Yingying’s body was never found. In 2019, Christensen was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
