Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) Said Thursday that House Democrats who carried out the impeachment of former President Donald Trump were unable to prove that he incited violence on Capitol Hill on January 6.
Paul, in response to a Fox News interviewer who asked him what he would recommend to Trump’s defense attorneys, said he would “benefit from something extraordinary that the impeachment managers admitted.”
“They admitted that President Trump was not indicted for his words. This is something extraordinary because I am not sure how someone is incited to insurrection or to this violence for which they say that he is solely responsible if it is not through his words, “Paul said in the interview.
“They end up saying, ‘Well, it’s not because of his words, it’s because he defended that the election was stolen,'” he added. Well, so was Nancy Pelosi… Also Hillary Clinton in 2016. Also Jamie Raskin, the House of Representatives chief impeachment manager [who] He went to the floor in 2017 and said, ‘Trump stole the election and I am opposed to giving in to Florida’s certified voters.’

Paul said he condemns the violence perpetrated on Capitol Hill, but believes that standards should be applied equally for both sides.
“So really, I think they have given up on their case, but they showed endless hours of terrible violence and chaos and those people should be punished and on both sides of the aisle, we agree with that,” Paul continued. “But they never argued that the president incited them with some kind of unusual language that the Democrats, frankly, haven’t done much worse.”
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told Fox Wednesday that while Democrats highlighted Trump’s “fight like hell” comment numerous times, they completely missed another section of Trump’s speech in which he explicitly instructed protesters to be peaceful.
“The only line of the president’s speech that wasn’t in the Democrats’ video is the line that is most important, and that’s where the president said, ‘Make your voices heard in a peaceful and patriotic way,’” Jordan said.
