[Reporter Chen Guanfu/Taipei Report]The New Taipei City Government is striving to start construction of the road on the north side of the Tamsui River (Tanbei Road) connecting New Taipei City and Taipei City by the end of the year. People are worried about the impact on Beitou’s traffic. In this regard, the Taipei Transportation Bureau stated that it will understand the number of vehicles entering Taipei City and Beitou from Tamsui and conduct a feasibility assessment on surrounding road improvement plans. Taipei City Councilor Lin Yanfeng questioned that before the local election last year, the Transportation Bureau said that the supporting improvement plan was not feasible, and now it has proposed a feasibility assessment, which is inconsistent in logic.
The council member’s proposal suggested that the Transportation Bureau should first complete the “southern extension of the Zhoumei Expressway viaduct to National Highway No. 1” and “build the viaduct on Daye Road southward across the Chengde intersection to connect to the Zhoumei Expressway” and “set up a viaduct on Dadu Road to connect to the Zhoumei Expressway”. After the feasibility assessment of plans such as “Expressway” and the completion of the Tamjiang Bridge and the completion of the Guandu New Bridge connecting Provincial Highway 64, the construction of the Taipei end of the Tambei Road will be considered.
The Transportation Bureau responded that the feasibility of the Guandu New Bridge is being assessed by New Taipei City, and the content and construction schedule have not yet been determined. The elevated extension of the Tanbei Road to Chaumei Expressway was not adopted during the environmental assessment stage; as for the Beitou Shilin Link Road, the Transportation Bureau will The feasibility assessment will be outsourced in 2024.
Lin Yanfeng mentioned that the Danbei Road may have an impact on Beitou’s traffic. Chiang Wanan came to Beitou before the mayoral election to guarantee that it would not affect traffic. Even former Taipei Mayor Hao Longbin once said that if the Tambei Road affects Beitou’s traffic, , Tambei Road will not be used as a road into Taipei City.
Lin Yanfeng said that when former Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shizhong was electing the mayor last year, the Transportation Bureau responded that none of the three options were feasible. In response to the implementation of the Tambak Road, the Transport Bureau proposed the plan as a supporting project for the Tambak Road and conducted a feasibility assessment. The logic is inconsistent.
“Suppose the feasibility assessment of the three options is not feasible?” Lin Yanfeng questioned, what will be done then? Will Shilin and Beitou become Neihu Traffic Nightmare 2.0 again in the future? Why, she said, was New Taipei City overdeveloped in the past? With the influx of people, the builders have made money, but the citizens of Taipei have suffered as a result of over-development.
