ITM brings together experts to discuss impact of COVID-19 on global health
First virtual edition of the ITM Colloquium kicks off today, October 27
Today, October 27, we kick off the 61st edition of the annual Colloquium of the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (ITM). Experts from all continents share their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic for three days. Together they reflect on the direct and indirect impact of the virus on global and local health. Given the current circumstances, this edition of the Colloquium will also be virtual for the first time.
New issues
New epidemics always bring new issues with them. What is the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare worldwide, but also locally? What can we learn from recent months and from viruses from the past? For three days, scientists and policymakers will address these questions and investigate the impact of COVID-19 on global and local health.
“During this edition of our annual Colloquium, we also bring scientists with various expertise and perspectives from all over the world into contact with each other. By doing so, we can exchange experiences and insights related to the COVID-19 pandemic. After all, the challenges ahead require a global and multidisciplinary approach – we can all learn from each other, ”said Dr. Marc Alain Widdowson, director of the Institute of Tropical Medicine.
The Colloquium is ITM’s annual scientific conference, funded by the Belgian Development Cooperation. Since 1959, the ITM Colloquia have brought together thousands of experts from North and South to discuss the most pressing scientific issues about tropical medicine and international health. This year it was decided to allow the scientific conference to take place virtually for the first time
