Immunologists: In countries with many vaccinated, mortality is incomparably lower

5% will not develop immunity, but there is still a guarantee that if you get vaccinated, you get sick more easily and infect the rest less, experts say

Prominent immunologists and pharmacologists have revealed the latest updated data from the summary of characteristics of the EU-approved vaccines against COVID-19 in BNR COVID Vaccines podcast.

More than 4 billion doses of vaccines have been given worldwide so far. 30.7 percent of the population on Earth has received one dose, and 16% are fully vaccinated, pharmacologists said.

Experts explained that in the brief characteristics of vaccines it is explicitly stated that 5 percent of those vaccinated will not develop immunity – This is genetics, but there is still a guarantee that “if you get vaccinated, you get sick less and you infect other people less if you get sick”.

Scientists ask why health authorities have not yet published information on how many of the patients have been vaccinated.

Prof. Dr. Maria Nikolova is adamant that neither RNA vaccines nor vectors can infect the disease or integrate into our genetic material, they can not enter the cell nucleus.

She explained that according to the change in the short characteristics, both RNA vaccines are already available can be used in children between 12 and 18 years.

Deyan Denev is adamant that the data show that vaccines work, help, protect and do no harm, with very few exceptions, and this is reflected in the brief characteristics.

Although, he said, with mutations in the virus, this is declining, their effectiveness against prevention of hospitalization, severe COVID-19 and death is relatively stable. According to him, in countries with high immunization coverage, the infected are also growing, but mortality from the disease is incomparably lower.

“The disease develops mostly where there are unvaccinated and I am worried about this – what will happen in a country where the Delta option is now deployed, and vaccination coverage is extremely low“, Denev pointed out after data came out yesterday that Bulgaria ranks first in the EU in terms of mortality.

According to him, the state must be prepared for this.

Prof. Nikolova clarified which vaccine is suitable for women, whether pregnant women should be immunized, as well as those taking contraceptives and with which vaccines to be immunized men over 50 years.

HIV patients give a very good immune response to vaccines, so people with secondary immune deficiencies should be vaccinated, said Prof. Nikolova.

According to Dr. Tsvetelina Velikova, it has already been proven through large international studies that patients with autoimmune diseases can be vaccinated.

After vaccination, the disease is not activated and no new autoimmune disease develops – there is no evidence of an increased incidence of reactivation of the underlying disease and even patients on immunosuppressive therapy show a good immune response.

Immunization should be done in remission, added Dr. Velikova.
