The big question is how long you will remain immune to the virus after a corona infection. Scientists come up with the strongest evidence to date that humans are immune for a long time, possibly years. About that writes The Guardian.
Researchers at New York’s Rockefeller University found that not only does the immune system keep remembering the virus, it also improves the quality of the protective antibodies after the infection is over. If the corona virus enters your body a second time, your immune system is therefore quickly and well able to expel it.
“This is very good news,” says Rockefeller’s chief molecular immunology, Michel Nussenzweig study. “It is expected that humans will be able to produce antibodies quickly and resist infection multiple times.”
It’s still unclear how long the immune system’s memory stores the virus, but Nussenzweig says you’re potentially protected for years. The discovery may explain why reinfections are so rare so far.
