“Immovable Ladder Resting on a Jerusalem Church”

The Church of the Holy Sepulcher was built in the 4th century AD. According to Christians, the church is located in the place where Jesus Christ was crucified, buried and resurrected.

During the centuries, there were battles between Christian denominations about who are the true masters of the church.

In the 18th century, six denominations came to a compromise, which agreed that they would manage the church jointly and would not change anything from the original appearance of the church without the consent of all denominations.

This agreement was signed more than 250 years ago. Instead of cooperating and cleaning up the building as it should, the representatives of the denominations decided to leave it alone to avoid potential conflicts.

Practically, this means that everything looks mostly like it did in the 18th century. Also a simple wooden ladder, which was probably pushed against the window by a worker.
