NEW YORK — Authorities arrested several immigrants for possibly being responsible for a pattern of cell phone thefts that targeted dozens of victims in recent months, law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the investigation said Monday.
The suspects allegedly used motorcycles in the robberies.
It’s not immediately clear how many robberies the New York City Police have linked to this wave of robberies, but sources say it appears to be at least more than 50.
Some of the arrests occurred Monday in the Bronx. Sources said some cell phones, among other items, were recovered. Apparently, the search continues.
Monday’s developments come as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg prepares to take the case of immigrants who allegedly attacked NYPD officers in Times Square to a grand jury. The officers were fine, but the melee caught on camera sparked widespread condemnation.
