They arrived Thursday afternoon in New York where they will wait for their daughter’s body to be buried in the Big Apple.
Upon arrival, the relatives demanded justice.
Mabel Álvarez assured that they suffered from double discrimination, for being immigrants and for being black.
“That day they did not want to attend to me, I asked for help, she asked for help but they did not listen to her,” he said.
“It seems to me that this was a great discrimination for being an immigrant and also for being black,” he added.
They traveled to the United States seeking better care for Anadith
The girl had complained that day of vomiting and stomach pains.
The parents of the minor assured that they were held longer than allowed according to the policies of the agency. Furthermore, she insisted that she was not attended to on time.
“They held us for eight days and supposedly they had diagnosed him with influenza. If she had that, why didn’t they immediately transfer her to a hospital so that she could be treated, ”she questioned.
The girl had a history of heart problems and sickle cell anemiaso the family traveled to the United States to give him better medical care.
“She suffered from sickle cell anemia and only here in the United States was she going to be well treated, supposedly,” added Álvarez.
The US Customs and Protection Office (CBP) has ensured that adequate care was provided.
