Immersive concerts at Espai Texas

He Festival Real 360º Experiències Binaurals returns to Barcelona to transform the way we experience concerts. Until December 1, the Espai Texas will host seven concerts that the public will be able to listen to as if they were just another musician and were on stage. And how is that possible? Thanks to binaural sound: with a microphone that recreates human listening, capable of placing the various sounds that reach it in a space. To do this, each attendee will be equipped with helmets that will be provided at the entrance and that offer total immersion.

This sensory experience, which fuses the experimental and the technological, will kick off today, Thursday, November 28, with a performance by the young Vic Mirallas. Tomorrow, Friday, the concerts of the veteran member of Seward Pablo Schvarzman, at six in the afternoon; and that of the emerging duet Azulceleste, at nine at night. On Saturday Maria Rodés and the Tarragona singer-songwriter Espaldamaceta will perform. The final culmination will be Nico Roig, a regular in the binaural format, and the tandem formed by Magalí Saré and Sebastià Gris on the first Sunday of December.

Promoted by the Associació Panorama180, the festival proposes a new way to enjoy and listen to live music. In this introspective and aesthetic event, the barrier between public and artist is dissolved and a connection of reciprocal communication is established. Each person perceives, feels and experiences the movements of the performers, as well as their proximity and distance in space. Even whispers can be heard in those four walls! An interaction that moved many last year.

The main tools of the project are the Neumann Dummy Head KU-100 microphone, which is shaped like a human head to capture sound in 360 degrees, and the AKG K91 headphones. The proposal focuses on this microphone, which is what makes the experience intimate for the attendees and the sound goes directly from the microphone to the audience’s mind.

As a novelty, this year six speakers with an immersive audio processor will be installed, taking the binaural experience a level further. An experimentation space will be created that combines analogue with digital. This processor uses object-based audio, allowing digital instruments to be moved in real time through space 360 degrees.

Time Out

In its third edition, the festival will change its location from the Paral·lel 62 room to the Espai Texas, in its theater room. This new enclave, with stands on both sides, allows the audience to feel closer to the singers and the atmosphere is more intimate. In this way, Teatre Texas is committed to music, which is added to the theatrical programming of the space.

Real 360º Experiències Binaurals offers a different way of experiencing a concert in which everyone can connect with their interior and, in some of the performances, even travel back in time. Beyond music, it is a space for artistic expression that, through the senses, seeks to teleport each viewer to a place of contemplation that will keep them, at least for a while, absorbed in a parallel reality.
