The Hindu reported on the 18th that the Indian Defense Purchasing Commission (DAC) approved a budget for purchasing weapons of 280 billion rupees (about 4.2 trillion won) the day before. The core of the budget is to secure six additional airborne early warning and control units (AEW&C) for the air force.
The airborne early warning controller is an aircraft that can perform both airborne early warning (AEW) functions and airborne command post (ACP) functions at the same time.
India plans to retrofit the Airbus A320 airliner to install a multifunctional radar and early warning system.
The budget also included the purchase of 11 coast guard ships and 38 naval Bramos supersonic cruise missiles.
India has hurried to introduce advanced weapons this year as border conflicts with China escalated. It is known that the fast track procedure was applied to the purchase of this fighter jet.
Relations between India and China are at their worst due to border conflicts in northern India’s Ladakh region.
Near the border, tensions are rising due to additional troops, tanks, missiles, and fighters deployed by the two armies.
