Jakarta –
A thread on Twitter reported impersonation of culinary business brands without permission. Here’s an explanation from one of the owners.
The delicious taste and unique concept have always succeeded in bringing a popular culinary business and making many people curious. But this success does not rule out the possibility of inspiring others and bringing in many competitors.
Competition in the culinary industry makes many people vying for the attention of potential customers. After being famous as a pioneer of delicious modern curry noodles, a brand called Seporsi Mie Kari underwent imitation.
Through a thread on Twitter, one of the owners described the imitation his business was experiencing. It turns out that this is the chronology of imitation of the viral curry noodle brand.

“Want to vent… So someone is duplicating my and my husband’s F&B business. A portion of Mie Kari, originally in Alam Sutera, was duplicated and opened in Jogja, the name is GoKari. Exactly from the menu, interior design, selection of table types, chairs, lights, basically everything similar,” wrote the Twitter account @m0lylim (27/6).
Trying to get further information regarding the case, detikfood contacted the Co-Owner of Seporsi Mie Kari. Andrew, as the Co-Owner, said that Seporsi Mie Curry had paid attention to the emergence of similar business imitations.
According to him, a business brand inspired by other culinary businesses is common in the culinary field. However, Seporsi Mie Kari regrets that there is an almost complete resemblance, so they are worried that it will misrecognize customers.
“Unfortunately they didn’t take the direction of a curry noodle with a different concept because the Jogja market is new and big. One opportunity missing. If there are lots of curry noodles with different concepts, we are very happy to have more local culinary variants,” said Andrew to detikcom (29/6).
It turned out that their brand had previously been imitated and was almost registered with Intellectual Property Rights. Photo: Instagram/seporsimiekari
Furthermore, Andrew explained that a similar thing had also happened. Imitated by different brands, curry noodles are almost even registered with Intellectual Property Rights in the name of ownership that is different from a portion of Curry Noodles.
The brand that first copied a portion of Curry Noodles was Seniman Mie Kari. Andrew explained, Mie Kari artists had submitted their brand to Intellectual Property Rights or IPR institutions.
“For the artist’s brand of curry noodles, the case is somewhat different. Where they register IPR with the assumption that we haven’t registered it yet. Judging from this case, there are unfavorable intentions from the artist’s brand side,” said Andrew.
Until now, the Seporsi Mie Kari has not received confirmation as a good intention from parties who imitate their business. Although it makes sense to imitate in the form of business inspiration, Andrew and Seporsi Mie Kari are only worried about misinformation and misidentification which will have a negative impact on Seporsi Mie Kari.
