The board of the International Monetary Fund has not yet made a decision on the fate of top woman Georgieva. The Bulgarian economist has been under fire for weeks.
In her previous position as head of the World Bank, she is said to have pressured employees to adjust reports. In doing so, she would have tried to get China higher in an international ranking of countries where it is beneficial to invest.
Top woman denies
Georgieva strongly denies that she did. The IMF board says its own investigation into the matter is progressing, but details remain to be clarified.
The Bulgarian was appointed chairman of the IMF in 2019. Together with former Minister of Finance Dijsselbloem, she was in the race for the top position. Dijsselbloem eventually withdrew because he received too little support from the European finance ministers. Traditionally, the IMF is led by a European.
