Congratulating the composer Imants Kalniņš on his 80th anniversary, Micrec Publishing House has published a sheet music book with notes and lyrics of the 50 most popular songs by Imants Kalniņš in the Latvian popular music sheet music series.
The book includes well-known melodies by Imants Kalniņš, performed by “Menuets”, “Turaidas Roze”, “Bus in the Sky”, Olga Rajecka, Ieva Akuratere, Austra Pumpure and others: “Lily Song”, “Dude”, “Song about Four White Shirts” , “Sand cake”, “Holiday”, “Cloud and cloud”, “There will be a song forever”, “Beat the drums, my dear ones”, etc. All notes have been reviewed and edited by Imants Kalniņš himself, giving his consent to their compilation in the new edition. “I am music” – these words of composer Imants Kalniņš are a white truth, because music lives in Imanta, and Imants’ music lives in us. Without it, Latvia, its people, the Song Festival, the history of the theater, the film industry, concert life, long summer nights with a guitar by the campfire are unimaginable. Bright, emotional, suggestive – the same can be said for every Kalniņš song. They are meant to listen, not to jump and dance to rhythm or to sound half-empty phrases. Imants Kalniņš’s compositions demand respect for himself, ”musicologist Daiga Mazvērsīte writes in the introduction to the book.
This is the nineteenth sheet music book in the series “Most Popular Songs”, in which sheet music books for such groups and musicians as “Brainstorm”, Raimonds Pauls, Līvi, Uldis Marhilevičs, Mārtiņš Freimanis, Lauris Reiniks, Eduards Rozenštrauhs and Guntars Rauntas have been published. The series also includes selections for children, compilations of Christmas songs, and notes of popular Latvian news.
