He is not only an NBA champion but also a “Dancing with the Star” winner. Iman Shumpert is now in prison for drug possession.

Former NBA champion and reigning “Dancing with the Stars” winner Iman Shumpert (32) has been arrested for drug possession. As reported by “People” magazine, citing official documents, the basketball pro was caught with marijuana at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in the US state of Texas over the weekend and was subsequently arrested. It is said that he was on his way to Los Angeles to his daughters.

A “considerable quantity of a green, leaf-like substance” was found in his backpack. During the interrogation that followed, the 2016 basketball champion admitted that it was marijuana. In addition, among his belongings, police found a magazine for a handgun containing more than a dozen 9mm rounds. However, Shumpert did not have a pistol with him.

The officers are said to have discovered around 170 grams of marijuana at Shumpert, which is a crime in Texas. He now faces up to two years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000. Shumpert is married to his wife, singer and actress Teyana Taylor (31), and father of two daughters, Iman Tayla (6) and Rue Rose (1).

Iman Shumpert won “Dancing with the Stars” last year

The basketball player won the NBA title as a player for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. After stints with the New York Knicks, the Sacramento Kings and the Houston Rockets, the shooting guard was last active for the Brooklyn Nets in 2021. In addition to his sports career, Shumpert published several rap songs under the pseudonym 2wo 1ne.

Last fall, Shumpert also took part in the ABC show “Dancing with the Stars” and even triumphed in the finals. “Dancing with the Stars” is the US offshoot of the British original “Strictly Come Dancing”, better known in Germany as the RTL format “Let’s Dance”.
