The succession of the late Elhadj Sory Magassouba, former prefectural secretary of religious affairs and first imam of Siguiri, continues to divide religious leaders and the notability of the city. After the union of the imams of Siguiri, it is the turn of the wise men to oppose the choice of the authorities. They reject the appointment of Elhadj Haroune Doumbouya and support Elhadj Issa Fofana, reports the correspondent of Guineematin.com in the prefecture.

While the controversy persists over the choice of the prefectural secretary for religious affairs and first imam of Siguiri, four of the five clans that make up the urban commune held a consultation meeting this Saturday, December 26, 2020, to decide on the subject. At the end of their discussions, the sages announced that the first religious authority of Siguiri that they recognize is none other than Imam Elhadj Issa Fofana

The latter had been designated to be the successor of Elhadj Sory Magassouba, of whom he was the deputy, before being dismissed by the regional inspectorate of religious affairs of Kankan, at the request of the patriarch of Siguiri, Elhadj Dramane Magassouba. He was replaced by Elhadj Haroune Doumbouya. A decision rejected by the council of wise men of the city, of which Elhadj Moussa Doumbouya is the spokesperson.

“On the death of Elhadj Sory Magassouba, the Islamic League and the imams of Siguiri had appointed Elhadj Issa Fofana to be his successor. So we the four clans gathered here (Camarala, Amadoula, Traoréla and Kandela) remain behind this decision. The other decision (the dismissal of Elhadj Issa Fofana and his replacement by Elhadj Moussa Doumbouya) does not come from us wise men. The union of imams, we support your approach. Your choice must be respected, ”said the spokesperson for the sages of Siguiri.

Remember that the Union of Imams of Siguiri threatens to demonstrate in the street tomorrow, Monday, December 28, 2020, to demand the reinstatement of Elhadj Issa Fofana in office.
