It is a poignant speech that Imam Mahmoud Dicko gave on Friday, August 21, during the rally organized in Mali by the M5. The very influential religious guide asked the Malians to grant forgiveness to ex-President Ibrahima Boubacar Keita.
“I am an imam and I remain an imam. I return to the mosque. I want to reconcile all Malians from Kayes to Kidal. I ask you to forgive my big brother IBK. We didn’t want him to leave that way. Mali is one family. I ask you to go towards peace. Nothing but peace among the Malians. We are from the same family and we come from the same family. I also ask you not to sow hatred and revenge between yourselves, ”he declared.
Before telling his four truths to the Malian people. “What bothered me was the fact that I heard that the private property of some fellow citizens had been looted, ransacked and vandalized. So from this evening (yesterday, editor’s note), I would like to tell you that I am against mulching, theft and vandalism of public and private property. Mali is a country of peace, of social cohesion, but also a country of harmony. We must not forget that we are a worthy people, we are a standing people. This is why I ask you to make peace with your brothers from all sides. We are all Malians. I don’t want you to put what I saw on your signs anymore. I am against this practice. So I ask my children to stop these practices that do not honor us. I thank the defense forces for their involvement in this historic fight. But I also tell them that the people are watching them in this so important fight for Mali. Thank you for the completion of our common fight ”
