The project of a new media library at Giberville, near Caen (Calvados), it’s nothing new. According to Mayor Gérard Leneveu, “the idea was born in 2008 during the reflection on the creation of the Jardins de Clopée, with the foreseeable consequence of a significant increase in the population, and therefore the need to adapt local public services. “.
This of course concerned the schools, “and it was therefore decided to combine the Pasteur school with the Aragon school and to expand the latter. This process will be completed at the end of the school year, thus freeing the premises of the Pasteur school in the heart of the village. ”
Installation in the Pasteur school in 2024
It is therefore in the south wing of the Pasteur school that the new media library will be installed from the beginning of 2024 after phases of studies and development work. The current “Les Mains d’Or” library, located in the Guy-Travert retirement home, very cramped in its 85 m², will then benefit from 350 m² of bright space intended for the public and a storage room. 65 m² offices facing the town hall garden.
Currently at the start of the study phase, the town hall is assisted by the services of the BDC (departmental library of Calvados) and the DRAC (regional directorate of cultural affairs). It also relies on certain grants.
This project is intended to be a genuine local cultural public service facility, accessible to all, so that this future media library becomes the essential place to visit for Gibervillais.
But also perhaps for the inhabitants of the surrounding towns who do not have such cultural equipment. To support their file, elected officials visited recent media libraries in neighboring municipalities with similar configurations, such as Mathieu or Dives-sur-Mer, which have become central places of social life.
A survey of the population
The town hall is now launching a survey of the population, in the form of a questionnaire distributed in mailboxes, and wishes as many responses and feedback as possible so that the project best meets the expectations of Gibervillais.
These anonymous questionnaires must be returned before March 13 to the town hall or to the library, and the expected strong participation will guide the choice of the project that will be developed so that it corresponds as closely as possible to the needs.
