Images of the murder of Peter R. de Vries shown in court | NOW

The court in Amsterdam showed images of the assassination attempt on Peter R. de Vries in the courtroom on Tuesday.

The crime journalist left the on July 6 last year at 7:26 p.m RTL Boulevardstudio at the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat in Amsterdam and walked towards the parking garage further down that street, where his car was. Near the garage, barely three minutes later, he was shot multiple times.

The images show that the perpetrator approached him from behind. The court warned the full courtroom in advance about the shocking nature of the images. De Vries’ daughter Kelly has temporarily left the room.

Other images show the fleeing gunman. As early as 7:31 PM, he is said to have sent a message to an as yet unknown man who would have directed the assassination attempt from a distance. It states, among other things, that he shot De Vries “right through his head and body” and that the victim is “dead”.

The suspects Delano G. (22) and Kamil E. (36) were trapped at an exit on the A4 within an hour of the attack and arrested by the police.

Suspected shooter won’t let go

According to the Public Prosecution Service, G. was the shooter. When asked by the court whether he shot De Vries (64), he replied that he invoked his right to remain silent. G. didn’t want to explain anything; he also refused to answer the question whether he knew the crime reporter.

E. did answer questions and denied involvement in the murder. He repeated that he had only acted as a driver, at the request of “an acquaintance”. He said he did not know that the car he was driving had been stolen.

De Vries succumbed to his injuries nine days after the attack in a hospital. A motive for the murder is unknown, but it is suspected that the murder has to do with his role as a confidential adviser for the key witness in the extensive liquidation process Marengo.
