Image of Donald Trump looking at Melania Trump while voting is from 2016, not 2024

Former President Donald Trump voted in the 2024 election, but this image on Facebook is not of him voting this year.

The image shared Nov. 5 shows Trump with his wife, Melania Trump, voting at a voting center. Trump appears to be watching his wife’s ballot. The caption of the post reads: “Looks like Donald Trump’s wife Melania voted for Kamala Harris.”

The post was flagged as part of Meta’s effort to combat fake news and misinformation on its platform. (Read more about our collaboration with Metaowner of Facebook and Instagram).

But Melania Trump could not have voted for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, in that image. The image is from November 8, 2016, when Trump ran against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Trump and his wife voted in New York City.

In 2016 they were registered to vote in New York. But now Trump lives in Florida. The Republican presidential candidate vote on November 5 in Palm Beach, Florida, accompanied by his wife.

PolitiFact also found footage of them voting in Florida, where they were wearing different accessories and clothing than in the Facebook post. In the post, Trump is seen wearing a blue tie and Melania Trump is seen wearing a beige coat. This year, Trump wore a blue tie and a red cap that said, “Make America Great Again,” and Melania Trump wore sunglasses and a black dress with white dots.

Recently, Trump critical and announcement of Vote Common Good, an organization that supports progressive candidates, including Harris.

The ad, narrated by actress Julia Roberts, shows a woman voting for Harris and suggests her husband voted for Trump.

The point of the announcement is that the vote is private.

“Remember,” Roberts says in the ad. “What happens” in the voting booth “stays” in the voting booth.
