I’m young and I need the money is a song by the German rapper Eko Fresh, which he recorded together with the singer G-Style. The song is the first single from his debut album of the same name I’m young and I need the money and was released on October 5, 2003.
I’m young and I need the money is a hymn of praise to Eko Fresh himself, who in the song describes himself as superior to the German rap scene. Other rappers would only try to copy him while he laughed down from above. He denies them any talent, refers to the money he has made and describes himself as the eighth wonder of the world. Eko Fresh also raps about the hatred and envy of others who would talk about him to get their own attention. But nobody can push him off the throne and he is ready for worldwide success. G-Style praises the rapper with various superlatives, such as freshest, best, biggest, star and player.[1]

The song was produced by music producer Aksit Ugurlu aka DJ Ses, who recorded the song’s music The World’s Greatest used by R. Kelly. Thus, in addition to Eko Fresh, Robert Kelly is also given as the author.

In the video, Eko Fresh and G-Style can be seen outside on a basketball court rapping and singing the song, respectively. Among other things, the rapper wears a jersey from the Harlem Globetrotters. There are other people in the square, including the singer and Eko Fresh’s then-girlfriend Valezka. Some people play basketball or ride BMX bikes or skateboards. In some scenes, a large German and Turkish flag can be seen in the background. Later, Eko Fresh and G-Style are standing in front of a car with a group of people in the dark and the rapper is holding banknotes.[2]

I’m young and I need the money entered the German singles chart at number five on October 20, 2003, where it stayed for three weeks. Overall, the song stayed in the top 100 for 14 weeks, including four weeks in the top 10.[4] It is Eko Fresh’s only Top 10 hit to date. In Switzerland, the song reached number 29 and was in the top 100 for nine weeks,[5] whereas it missed the charts in Austria. In the German single annual charts in 2003 I’m young and I need the money Position 55.[6]
