“I am the one you are looking for.” With these words and blood-stained clothes, according to the German newspaper Bild, 26-year-old Isa Al-H. from Syria allegedly handed himself over to the authorities for the knife attack at a festival in Solingen, Germany, in which three people died. and five others were injured.
Der Spiegel magazine reported that Issa was born in the Syrian city of Deir Ezzor and arrived in Germany in December 2022. He applied for asylum in Bielefeld and a year later was granted “subsidiary protection”, which is often granted to refugees from countries where civil strife is raging. He is a Sunni Muslim, who until now was not known to the authorities as an extremist Islamist, as reported by the APE-MPE correspondent.
“We have the suspect we’ve been looking for all day in custody,” North Rhine-Westphalia’s interior minister, Herbert Royle, confirmed to ARD yesterday.

Islamic State claimed responsibility
Earlier, the Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack as “revenge for Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere”. There is still no confirmation of IS’s relationship with the perpetrator of the Solingen attack, the German magazine pointed out.
A few hours before the suspect in the attack was handed over, as part of investigations to identify the perpetrator, the SEK special operations unit of the police raided a refugee accommodation center and arrested a 36-year-old man, who, Royle explained, was found to be “not him which we had in our sights”. The site was only 300 meters from the site of the attack.
