Bear the dog escaped from a pet sitter two years ago and has been missing ever since. Now he is returning to his family.
A missing dog has been reunited with his family after two years. Volunteers found the dog in Colorado Springs and brought him to New York, where the family now lived, reports “People“.
Missing person report on social media did not help
The dog, named Bear, escaped from the care of a pet sitter in Colorado Springs in 2022 and ran away. Shortly thereafter, the family had to move to New York to work for the military.
According to People, they previously reported Bear as missing to the authorities and spread the missing person report on social media. But despite all efforts, the family dog remained missing for a long time.
After two years, volunteers were able to catch the dog
Until the Colorado Springs Animal Control Department discovered a dog in July that they actually thought was Bear. Volunteers set up feeding stations and cameras and were finally able to catch the dog on August 18. “He was pretty matted, very dirty, all that other stuff. He’s definitely underweight, but he had no health issues,” volunteer Danielle Neiner told the local station THE HERD.
According to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR), a microchip scan confirmed that it was indeed Bear. Owner Ross was overwhelmed when she received the news: “Even now I’m still in shock that it’s him,” she told People.
Finally, the HSPPR announced: “Bear is coming home.” Volunteers organized care, a vet visit and a trip to New York. There, the family was already preparing to welcome their missing dog back: “We already bought his entire bed and bowls, and my kids helped me buy toys for him,” Ross tells KRDO.
Dog Gizmo found after nine years
Judith Monarrez also spent nine years searching for her dog Gizmo, who disappeared from her garden in Las Vegas in 2015. According to People, a woman found Gizmo, now 11 years old, and took him to the vet, where his microchip was scanned and Monarrez was contacted. Monarrez described the reunion as “a miracle.” She recognized Gizmo immediately by his eyes. “As soon as I said his name, he tilted his head and wouldn’t stop staring at me,” she explained.
The vet found Gizmo had multiple infections and dental disease. Monarrez started a fundraiser to cover the cost of treatment, saying, “I can’t even imagine what he must have been through.” Now she plans to focus on Gizmo’s recovery and give him the love she’s accumulated over the past few years.
