Rötger Feldmann, better known as Brösel, is one of the most renowned comic artists in Germany. With his creation “Werner” he created a cult figure that was immortalized in numerous comics and five films. But aside from fame, Feldmann also had unusual experiences.

Brösel reveals: This is what happened to him in prison

Brösel reveals to “Der Westen” that he has already been in prison several times. His dislike of bureaucracy and the lifestyle of the time meant that he didn’t take traffic tickets too seriously.

He belongs to:

If any parking tickets came my way, I never paid any attention to them. I always thought bureaucracy sucked.”said Brösel. The consequences of his careless handling of traffic tickets finally caught up with him. The police showed up at his door because he hadn’t paid the cost of a flat tire.

“In the end it was 280 marks and that was a lot of money for me”explains Brösel. Instead of paying the sum, he decided to spend a week in jail and save the money for a new tire. He describes this time as “a great experience”which gave him the opportunity to think in peace and develop new stories.

Feldmann does not see his time in prison as a punishment, but as an opportunity. “You can think about it. You have time.”he says. The isolation gave him the opportunity to concentrate on his creativity, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. “You’re locked up there, you’re allowed to walk in circles around the yard for an hour once a day. And there’s nothing else.”
