A fire broke out on the 11th floor of an apartment in Sinan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, around 12:04 today (29th).
The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes by the 119 fire brigade dispatched in an emergency.
One resident suffered minor burns, and 11 residents are receiving hospital treatment for inhaling smoke.
Some 20 other neighbors in the apartment were also evacuated due to concerns about the spread of smoke.
The fire was extinguished after burning part of the apartment’s interior room and causing soot damage to the entire room, and it is believed that the fire started in the room.
A resident in his twenties in an apartment with a fire stated, “I played a prank of lighting toilet paper and paper in the room, and I came out of the room to play with my cat, and the flames soared with a popping sound in the room.”
The police, who conducted the field investigation, will investigate the exact cause of the fire, weighing the possibility of a misfire.
