“I think this is the place and time when musicians find out what other people are doing. Because there is not always time to find out what others are doing. We cover all genres. We see and hear a lot on the radio, but there are a whole bunch of niche musicians who live in their niche and only their fans know about them. Now, through this award, we’re letting people know what’s going on in the entire music industry.”
Just like the submitted songs, the family of musicians is also quite diverse – starting from those who apply for the nomination for the first time, ending with those who are already hard to count. Singer Daumants Kalniņš reveals that he has received nominations several times, but has not yet managed to win the award. Singer Miks Galvanovskis also hopes to be among the nominees in the future and win the big prize.
Jānis Ozoliņš, the soloist of the “Sigma” group, says that it is very important to be nominated, because many listeners learned about the “Sigma” group precisely because of the nomination.
“Latvia is small, musicians are small, and it’s cool that someone appreciates us. Although we all boil here in our duck pond, it is better to be the big swan in the duck pond than the plankton in the lake.”
“Golden Microphone” producer Elita Mīlgrave, who has been with the artists for 26 years, reveals that, over the years, music has changed drastically. At the moment, some musicians don’t even know what genre to add their music to, because the genres merge and overlap.
On the evening of February 18, the “Golden Microphone” ceremony will be held in the Ķipsala exhibition hall and the winner in 21 categories will be determined. Meanwhile, all nominees can be viewed here.
