USR leader Cătălin Drula said on Monday, in the program Proiect de Tară: Romania, from Prima News TV, that he is obviously a potential presidential candidate, but specified that the decision will be made within the party. Drula also said that they will have a president-prime minister tandem and specified that, as a profile, an executive position suits him more. “I am obviously a potential presidential candidate. First, I would like to find the best formula for the entire series of elections. We will have a tandem president-prime minister. My profile is more suited to an executive position, that’s how I’ve always seen myself”, said Drula.
He stated that there will be a discussion in the party regarding the candidacy. “When I look around at who the potential candidates are, I gain courage,” the USR leader also said.
Cătălin Drula showed that the European Parliament elections are the first in 2024 and “a result below expectations in the European Parliament for a party puts you in a difficult position for the autumn race”, because they are the opening of the big electoral show.
“I don’t want to anticipate, but I think there is a great potential for USR in 2024, because as time goes by, the options crystallize. The options are the FSN block, the system, the mammoth block, on the other side the extremist option and there is only one modernizing, liberal option and there is the USR and we are working to build the entire set of candidates for 2024, we go and talk from door to door”, said Drula , showing that they had 1,000 sign-ups in the party since the beginning of the year.
