“I’m not going to do any more ‘shows’ alone …. who do you go out with afterwards?”

Actress, musician, songwriter, influence. Clara Ingold (Palma, 1986) He has everything to succeed and he has done so with his first solo show, Tolls In my fucking life I go back to doing a show alone. The show, in which the interpreter merges her two great passions, theater and music, premiered in November 2020 at the Teatre Sans in Palma with a success that took her by surprise, selling out tickets. From there he has not stopped achieving sold outs both in this setting on Can Sanç street and in the Teatre del Mar. In this room of the Molinar de Ciutat you will be able to see yourself again on April 24 and 25 – with the capacity already full -, and on days 1 and 2 of May.

What is it Tolls?

Tolls It is the result of years of wanting to mix music and theater, which are my two great passions. It’s what I like to do the most artistically.

How did this show come about?

“I’ve wanted to do something like Tolls, and although it has nothing to do with the pandemic, this situation has given me the necessary time and space. They are ideas and conclusions that I have come to in recent years from very personal stories. It is a very autobiographical work. Much of what I tell is true and part of the desire to give more weight to my musical world. I always wanted to write my own songs and now I have found a way to tell my stories through music.

That truth of which you speak, is it what has achieved that Tolls connect with the public?

-Can be. It is my personal stamp, they are stories that happen to me or that happen around me, to everyone really. They are common themes, like love and especially heartbreak. They had always directed me and told me what to do, now I am alone in front of the public.

Was that the most complicated?

“It wasn’t as complicated as I thought, but I have realized that working alone is a hassle.” He wanted to prove it to me, but the subtitle of the work itself says so. I will do no more shows alone … who do you go drinking with afterwards? I would do it with the public, but now you can’t.

Did you expect such a positive response?

-Not. I understood that many people wanted to see my things, people who follow me for my videos on social media. There are people who did not know my musical part and could expect something more absurd, but they have found a very personal piece, with a very comic gap, but it is not a comedy. I start the show by forcing people to listen to a concert, assuming they are coming to see something else.

They are his first own songs.

—It gives you a lot of respect, but in the end I ended up making an album and putting together a group. I got a gig for the Geyser Festival but they asked me to go with a band. This is how Clara Ingold & The Silver Pickles emerged, with three musicians: José Miquel Puigserver ‘Puter’, Juanmi Bosch and Mané Capilla. We have recorded the album and we will publish it in a fanzine with the lyrics, because there are songs in English, Spanish and Catalan.

Have you thought about taking it outside of Mallorca?

-They ask me. I am looking at rooms in Barcelona. My plan is to do it before I die.

In addition to TollsDo you work on any other project?

—I have very pending to work with Josep Orfila [actor]. In the School of Dramatic Art of the Islands [ESADIB] We functioned very well, but when we came out, life took us on different paths. We have found ourselves again wanting to ‘work’. There is chemistry and we share the same way of facing life.

He speaks of the ESADIB, where, as in the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, harassment and abuse of power have been reported. As a former student, what do you think?

—As in other environments, there are a series of sexist patterns and abuse of power that have been normalized and had not been questioned. Many people like to abuse their power to do whatever they want. Now this issue is given voice. The case of the Institut del Teatre has caused a domino effect.

‘Peajes’ is a “very personal” show by the actress and singer Clara Ingold. In this proposal, the artist fuses her two great passions: theater and author music.
