UNITED KINGDOM MONARCHY
Washington, Mar 16 (EFE News) .- Former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) confessed on Tuesday that he does not consider himself a “fan” of Meghan Markle and said that Queen Elizabeth II is a “magnificent person.”
“I am not a fan of her (Markle), the things she says about the royal family, the queen (…) I have met the queen and I think the queen is a magnificent person and I am not a fan of Meghan,” said the ex-president in an interview with Fox News.
Trump also responded to rumors originating in British tabloids that the Duchess of Sussex would be considering running in a future White House election.
“Well, I hope that happens, because if that happened I think I would be even more inclined to run,” said the former president, who maintains the leadership of the Republican Party and has left the door open to be his candidate again in 2024.
Markle sparked a huge controversy in the United States and the United Kingdom by stating in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey that the British royal family made comments about the skin color that her son would have.
Markle’s statement was one of the headlines of the explosive interview, where the Duchess of Sussex also revealed that during that pregnancy she had suicidal thoughts and claimed that the Royal Household refused to help her.
For his part, the Duke of Sussex, Enrique, admitted that he felt “very disappointed” by his father, Charles of England.
Buckingham Palace is under heavy pressure from accusations of racism leveled by the Dukes of Sussex against the royal family, a scandal that threatens to plunge the monarchy into its worst crisis in decades.
Former US First Lady Michelle Obama said Tuesday that she “prays” for “forgiveness” within the British royal family after Markle’s explosive interview with Winfrey.
