Mariana Salazar, an athlete from our Effort and Glory Program, is recovering after the clavicle fracture she suffered on Saturday during her participation in the 2024 Volcano Downhill, which took place in Antigua Guatemala.
Due to that injury, the top Salvadoran downhill figure underwent surgery on Sunday in Guatemala and explained that he will take his time to recover.
“The recovery process will be five to six weeks of immobility and then I will begin therapies. I still don’t know when I’m going to return to competitions, I hope the recovery is quick,” Mariana mentioned.
Regarding the fracture, the cyclist explained that it was in a jumping test after her participation in the elite women’s category of the Volcano Downhill.
“The race had already finished and they did a jumping event, I fell badly on a jump and broke my collarbone and the fracture was somewhat complicated because it separated a lot. I am quite sad because I had made a great effort to come to this race, I had not felt well and I had all the symptoms not to do this race, but I wanted to try and it ended badly,” explained the athlete with an 18-year sporting career.
Salazar mentioned that he will be in El Salvador for a couple of days and then return to France to continue his recovery and cancer treatment.
“I’m going to take my time to recover, my body has been quite tired with all the cancer treatments, I think I have demanded a lot from it and it is another lesson to learn in this life. “I’m going to rest a lot,” said Mariana, who in 2029 was in the top 10 in the world and was the best Pan American cyclist.
In September 2022, Salazar reported that she was suffering from breast cancer and would undergo treatment, but a year later she returned to high competition with participation in the Les Gets World Cup, in France, and in October she participated in the Pan American Championship. of Downhill 2023, which took place in the city of Cusco, Peru, where he won a silver medal
