President Yoon Seok-yeol’s congratulatory speech on Independence Day omits Japan by mentioning ‘Japan’ just three times out of a total of 1,400 words.

The Democratic Party of Korea complained, “We cannot hang our heads in shame at the congratulatory speech of the President of the Republic of Korea, which is praised by the Japanese media. ”

“Only Japan and self-proclaimed sadistic forces praise the Independence Day celebration of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is selling out a long history. ”

On the other hand, the People’s Power Party praised the same congratulatory speech for “announcing a new unifying discourse and clarifying the meaning of Independence Day. ”

However, it was also noted among party leaders and senior officials that “it is unfortunate that there was no mention of Japan or its past history.”

The war of words between the ruling and opposition parties continued even after Independence Day.
