“I’m afraid Rayane Bounida has already slipped out of our hands”: Anderlecht chairman Wouter Vandehaute has little hopeful news about the purple-and-white goldcrest

Lately there has been a lot of talk about the purple and white top talent Rayane Bounida. The Brussels club is only too happy to offer Bounida a new contract, but the financial demands of the child prodigy would be too high. Wouter Vandenhaute spoke in the football podcast Midmid about the ‘sad’ case.

“Rayane will be 16 in March. He was able to sign a contract with us from the age of 15, but he didn’t. Now he can also sign a contract abroad from the age of 16,” says Vandenhaute. “Is he slipping out of our fingers? I’m afraid he’s actually slipped out of our fingers already. But hey, people make choices. I am personally very sorry that Rayane would leave us. It’s a shame for the club, and I’m also convinced it would be better for Rayane and his family. They live in Vilvoorde and are embedded in the social environment here. It would be much better for everyone if he broke through in Anderlecht. I always think it’s best when you break through at that club as a great talent, who is trained in a club that does all the effort for you.”

March in Vilvoorde?

But everything seems to point to a departure of Bounida from Brussels. “People are free and make their own choices. We have to convince players to choose us for the right reasons, not for the money. It is especially a pity, because Rayane really should have broken through at Anderlecht. But our door remains wide open. I also have a very good relationship with his family, which is why I personally find it a great disappointment. If the end of the year should change their minds, I will welcome them with open arms, but I fear it. I’m afraid there won’t be much that can be done about it. Perhaps our supporters should organize a march in Vilvoorde or all kinds of initiatives should be created. Everything is good to keep Rayane with us.”

Finally, Wouter Vandenhaute also gave a subtle hint to what could be the next destination of the super talent. “Rayane Bounida wears the jersey number 14 with us, and that says enough about where he might go (the number 14 refers to the legendary jersey number of Johan Cruijff, who became an absolute legend at the Dutch Ajax).”
