On Saturday, July 24, the exhibition “My Room” by the painter Ilze Preisa will be opened in the Concert Hall “Cēsis” and will be on view until the middle of September. From July, the concert hall resumes concert life with live events, and, as usual, the art gallery offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy visual art as well.
In the summer season of this year, the art gallery of the concert hall “Cēsis” offers its visitors the exhibition “My Space” by the artist Ilze Preisa. It encourages you to look at the world differently – to immerse yourself in the world of surreal fantasy images, to feel the eternally changing power of nature, to seek and find the unusual that always coexists with everyday routine and greyness.
The artist has always been fascinated by the theater stage, the secret that is revealed when the curtain opens, imaginative images and fantasies about what may or may not happen. When painting her works, she sometimes feels like a director, who first creates space, then gives it light and finally – allows it to be inhabited by her images. The red curtain of Triptych’s “Space” is a symbol of an individual’s relationship with society – how open and truly each of us are in our own theater of life?
“In art, the language of symbols is close to me. I speak through them in paintings. When I tell about events and developments around us, I paint images of the mythical world in works, giving them new shades. The symbols I use in works can also be included in geometric shapes and arranged In order, they form their own story.The works are created in many layers, where every detail or symbol makes sense.Beautiful is important – sometimes even astringent beautiful.It is a deliberately chosen artistic form that attracts and further makes us look deeper.Art is mine type of communication, “reveals Ilze Preisa.
Ilze Preisa’s art education began at the J. Rozentāls Art High School (1988-1994), later followed by studies at the Latvian Academy of Arts (1994 – 2002), as well as at the Berlin Academy of Arts (HDK), Germany (1998). Klava Sīpoliņš (Canada) creative scholarship (2000) was awarded for the bachelor’s diploma work – painting cycle “Letters from Bulls”. At the same time, Ilze also studied at the Latvian Academy of Sciences in the Master’s program at the Latvian Academy of Culture (1999 – 2002). The artist has had 30 solo exhibitions in Latvia and abroad, as well as she has participated in more than 120 group exhibitions. The works are in the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, Matti Milius and Luciano Benetton and others in private collections in many parts of the world.
The exhibition can be viewed in the Art Gallery of the Concert Hall “Cēsis”, Raunas Street 12, on working days from 12.00 – 18.00, in accordance with the epidemiological safety measures in force.
