The central theme of the artist Ilze Karlsone’s solo exhibition is wood as a material, texture, form. The artist uses untreated tree branches, logs, fire and water polished trunks to create objects. Connected, tied, and lifted on the podium, they are a testament to beautiful and expressive simplicity. The artist invites to look into the wood textures, structure, roughness of the bark, the sharpness of the fibers, the color nuances of the material. The graphics pages created by Carlson serve as a background and depict wind-bent, broken trees, uprooted trunks, and piles of logs.

I. Karlsone was born in Riga. Studied at Liepāja Secondary School of Applied Arts. She continued her studies at the Latvian Academy of Arts, graduating in 1977 as a graphic artist. In 2003 she obtained a master’s degree. He teaches drawing and painting at Liepāja Secondary School of Music, Art and Design. Since 1976, he has been a regular participant in joint exhibitions of artists with graphic and painting works, and is a member of the Artists’ Union.
