Billionaire and businessman Ilon Mask announced on Tuesday that he plans to invest up to $ 30 billion (€ 25.2 billion) to develop the Starlink project, which aims to launch tens of thousands of satellites to provide wireless Internet anywhere on Earth.
To date, Starlink has deployed more than 1,500 satellites in space and will be able to provide wireless internet anywhere in the world by August, except at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona via the North Pole and South Pole.
Masks said Starlink plans to invest at least five billion dollars and possibly even ten billion dollars before the project has a positive financial flow.
Then, over time, investments can reach $ 20 or $ 30 billion, Masks explains.
Starlink currently operates in about ten countries and has just over 69,000 users, but by mid-next year, Masks hopes to attract about half a million users to the project.
He also said he did not see Starlink as a competitor to existing internet service providers, but as an additional service.
