The Water and Sewerage Authority went out on Friday and asked people to be sober with water use, to avoid water shortages. If the situation gets worse, the municipality does not rule out more measures.
– The reason why we go out with this is that there is a low water level in the reservoirs in Nordmarka due to little precipitation over time, in addition to the fact that we are rehabilitating the facility at Gjerdingen.
Simen Strand Jørgensen, head of communications at the Water and Sewerage Authority in Oslo, told VG. On Friday, Oslo municipality went out and asked people to be frugal with the water in the time ahead.
– In order to prevent water shortages in the future, we will have to ask the people of Oslo to be sober with water use, says director of the Water and Sewerage Authority in Oslo Anna Maria Aursund, in the press release.

Oslo’s water supply comes mainly from Maridalsvannet and rivers and lakes connected to the water. One of the lakes is Gjerdingen, which is currently being drained to rehabilitate the dam facility. This, together with the lack of precipitation, is the reason why the municipality goes out with this call.
Jørgensen nevertheless says that there is no danger of the water being used up or suddenly disappearing from the tap.
– You still go out and warn?
– The probability is not high, but we warn because it is a possibility. That is why we want to secure ourselves. If everyone contributes, it can make a big difference.
