Illegal tobacco vapes imported into New York – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORKNew York Mayor Eric Adams announced this Wednesday at a press conference that the city has seized half a ton (544 kilos) of illegal tobacco vapor containing batteries and other dangerous materials.

The vapes will end up in the city of Grafton (Ohio), where they will be destroyed in an environmentally friendly way by ENP’s environmental waste management service.

The measure is part of ‘Operation Padlock to Protect’ which the city started in May last year to face the illegal sale of this drug and which managed to close more than 1,200 unauthorized stores, as well as to import approximately 80 million dollars in illegal goods.

However, these vapes, which were not regulated or taxed and were sold illegally in various stores in the five districts of the city, did not contain cannabis, although due to their illegal nature legal “it is difficult to know what is really inside,” the Minister’s Office told EFE.

“Today we say goodbye to products that put our children at risk and undermine our quality of life,” said Adams at the press conference.

The mayor confirmed that this is only a “fraction” of the illegal products that the Office of the Mayor has seized, and he defended the need for the cannabis industry to be completely legal and to ‘produces “well tested and regulated products”.

In August, New York City also burned “in an environmentally responsible manner” more than four tons of seized illegal cannabis products, the Mayor’s Office said in a statement.
