About 400 people were still present on Monday at the grounds of a rave party near Saumur, where a man, around thirty years old, died on Sunday, he announced the prefecture of Maine-et-Loire.
“Currently, a little less than 400 people still live on the site, partly under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The control system maintained by the gendarmerie since the night of May 8 is still in place,” said the prefecture on his X account.
The authorities also indicated that more than 5,000 offenses were registered, “representing a total fine of more than 650,000 euros”, including 2,508 for disturbances during the night and 2,100 for participation in the forbidden show. The police also issued 288 fixed fines for drug possession, according to the same source.
“When the first aid station was set up by the State with the support of approved civil security associations, from Thursday May 9 at 7:00 pm to Sunday May 12 at 7:30 pm, 216 participants received assistance,” according to the press release.
A man in his thirties who was taking part in the rave died on Sunday morning after suffering a cardio-respiratory arrest. The Saumur public prosecutor’s office has opened an “investigation into the causes of death”.
The deceased man was “under narcotics”, a police source told AFP, without further details about the nature of the substances or their possible connection to the death.
This man “was identified yesterday (late Sunday afternoon)”, Saumur public prosecutor Alexandra Verron said in a press release. He is a man “aged 30 and lives in the Loire-Atlantique department “, she said, specifying that an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.
The prosecutor also indicated that an “individual procedure” had been opened “about allegations of damage to meetings, several noise attacks and organization without prior publication and despite the ban on festive gatherings”.
The owner of the agricultural field where the gathering took place and people who were concerned about the noise complained and part of the equipment used to broadcast the music was seized, according to the judge.
“Fifteen police arrests have been made in connection with the holding of this rave party, seven of which are still ongoing” specifically for offenses against drug legislation or violence against persons in public authority and rebellion, said Ms. Verron.
“Six people have already been the subject of a court summons before the Saumur criminal court.”
The illegal rave party brought together up to 10,000 partygoers on remote agricultural land, where no access to drinking water or sanitation was provided.
