Two people were arrested on Tuesday morning for illegal puppy trade in Veldhoven. It concerns suspects aged 28 and 30 from that place. The puppies were sold via Marktplaats and in many cases were sick, separated from their mother too early or of a different breed than indicated.
The police tracked down the suspects after several reports. They arrived between October 2021 and January 2023. After investigation, it turned out that the victims had bought a puppy from a house in Veldhoven. The pets were offered for sale via Marktplaats.
In the advertisements, the seller wrote that the puppies were in possession of a valid pet passport, chip, vaccinations and deworming. But after people bought the puppies, it turned out that this was not true. In many cases the animals were sick. Also, some were a completely different race than the advertiser had indicated. Some puppies were separated from their mothers earlier than allowed by law.
Forbidden weapons
The NVWA, animal protection and the municipality have searched several houses to check the welfare of the animals. The Judge-Commissioner also searched two houses.
Four locations were found to be in default. The owners are now obliged to ensure the welfare of the animals. Animal protection, together with the animal police, monitors whether this actually happens.
Prohibited weapons were found in two other houses, such as brass knuckles, blackjack, pepper spray and a stun gun. The police also found a stolen scooter. Everything has been confiscated.
Two suspects wanted
According to the police, there is no question of breeding. The suspects are suspected of illegal trade in puppies. They are detained and being interrogated. Police are still looking for two other suspects.
