Jakarta –
DPRD DKI Jakarta PDIP Faction member Gilbert Simanjuntak rated wild parking which is suspected of generating billions of rupees annually in central Jakarta (Jakpus) has been going on for years. According to him, illegal parking has also soiled urban planning.
“This has been neglected for years. This is the central city mayor’s area, they’re the ones who should be responsible. It’s also the city center, so it’s seedy,” Gilbert told reporters on Tuesday (6/12/2022 ).
Gilbert has called on the DKI Jakarta provincial government to take decisive action regarding the illegal parking. He suspects there are unscrupulous agents involved in the camp.
“It is not clear to me who is responsible. But this has been overlooked for years. So according to the area it is the central mayor, the location on the road is the authority of the Transport Agency or Satpol PP. Yes (act with decision), I’m sure the officers are also involved on the ground,” he said.
Gilbert added that parking in DKI is under-managed. He was confused as to why the parking wasn’t managed properly.
“For a long time, parking has been poorly managed. I don’t know for what purpose,” Gilbert said.
Furthermore, Gilbert mentioned the electronic parking made by former DKI governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok. According to him, parking lots with e-money payments were no longer operated during the era of former governor Anies Baswedan.
“All wild parking put in order. There were motorized street parking on Jl Sabang and Blok M in Ahok era. The Anies era has not even been cured. We recommend (continuing the e-parking program), for additional local revenue,” she said.
Jakarta Citizens Forum (Facts) President Azas Tigor has previously highlighted illegal parking practices in Jakarta. He estimates that illegal parking in Jakarta could generate profits of up to hundreds of billions of rupees every year.
Tigor gave an example of the cost of illegal parking around Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta which reaches IDR 10,000 per motorbike. If there are 5,000 motorcycles every day, the valets (jukir) can make a profit of up to IDR 50 million per day, IDR 1.5 billion per month, and IDR 18 billion within a year.
“If we look at all the illegal parking areas around Grand Indonesia, there are many of them and they are filled with thousands of motorcycles. You can imagine how big the income for illegal parking is in the area around Grand Indonesia. For example, there there are about 5,000 motorcycles parked there every day, the income is there. 50 million rupees a day, 1.5 billion rupees a month and 18 billion rupees a year,” Azas said in a written statement on Tuesday ( 6/12).
