Illegal occupation in Nîmes: a demonstration in support of the families of the rue P. Sémard squat this Monday

The Dal calls this Monday February 8 at 2 p.m. for a rally in front of the courthouse.

On January 18, 2019, families occupying abandoned housing belonging to the company ICF Habitat as well as the local association for the Right to Housing (Dal) since September 2019 in Nîmes were summoned to court. The hearing was postponed until Monday, February 8, which only had the effect of delaying the decision that the court could take to deport them. This is why a rally will take place this Monday in front of the courthouse at 2 p.m.

These families “only aspire to live, study and work here”

These families, most of whom have children, have found in this squat a way to escape the dangers of survival in homes and on the streets. According to the Dal, this rehousing situation allowed the children to go to school, some of the parents to find a job, but also to submit applications for access to social housing or to obtain papers. This event aims to support these families “who aspire only to live, study and work here”.
