The investigation into comedian Lee Jin-ho (38), who himself revealed that he illegally gambled on the Internet, is being conducted at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul.

On the 15th, Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that a complaint related to Mr. Lee’s request to investigate illegal gambling was received the previous day through Kookmin Shinmungo and assigned to the Investigation Division 2.

Mr. A, who filed a complaint with Kookmin Shinmungo, said, “I was so devastated and shocked (after hearing the report on Mr. Lee’s illegal gambling). “We judged that an investigation was inevitable,” he said. “We hope that the police will thoroughly investigate Mr. Lee’s ‘habitual gambling’ and ‘fraud’ charges, and that those with unknown names who opened illegal gambling houses will be severely punished, including applying ‘crime of opening gambling’.” He stated the reason for filing the complaint, saying, “I strongly urge you to do so.”

Previously, on the 14th, Mr. Lee confessed his illegal gambling on social networking services (SNS), saying, “In 2020, by chance, I started playing games on an illegal Internet gambling site, and I ended up taking on debt that was difficult to bear.”

He continued, “I was able to come to my senses and quit gambling after some advice from my acquaintances and the fear that I might not be able to do the job I love again, but I had already received financial help from many people.”

He also said, “I am consistently repaying the money every month, and I plan to repay all my debts with all my might until I die.” He also reflected, “I sincerely regret the past days when I forgot my duty as a celebrity on TV and ruined it due to a moment of wrong judgment.” .

Mr. Lee said, “I bow my head in apology to the many people who were disappointed in me for causing social controversy and was busy hiding it,” and also announced that he would participate in the police investigation, saying, “I will also faithfully accept the police investigation and pay for my mistakes.” .

According to the entertainment industry, some celebrities, including BTS member Jimin, lent money to Mr. Lee and suffered losses. An official from Jimin’s agency, Big Hit Music, explained, “Jimin lent money to Mr. Lee using an IOU.” In addition, Mr. Lee is said to have borrowed more than 1 billion won from colleagues in the broadcasting industry, including singers Young Tak and Ha Sung-woon, and comedian Lee Soo-geun. It is known that more than 1.3 billion won was borrowed from a loan company.

Lee, who debuted as a special comedian on SBS in 2005, made his face known by appearing in public comedies such as SBS’s ‘Family Finders’, MBC’s ‘Hattangsa’, and tvN’s ‘Comedy Big League’, as well as various entertainment programs such as JTBC’s ‘Knowing Bros’. It has been reported that Lee has decided to leave JTBC’s ‘Knowing Bros’, where he is currently a regular guest. He is scheduled to appear in Netflix’s ‘Comedy Revenge’ without editing.
