Although several people have been arrested, no further details were released at this time due to pending legal proceedings.

For her part, Governor Kathy Hochul said, “We know solutions are needed, but it takes time and dedication to see results.”

“Through our support of the new State Police Arms Trafficking Interdiction Unit, we are focused on investigating and bringing to justice those who traffic weapons into the state and illegally sell them to other criminals who intend to evade law enforcement. law,” he added.

The GTIU State Police was created last summer to target illegal arms trafficking in New York and conducts complex, long-term investigations that focus on mitigating the source of supply. The goal of the GTIU, along with other law enforcement agencies that partner in investigations, is to reduce illegal gun ownership and the violent crime that often follows.

“So far this year, the State Police have seized 795 weapons, an increase of 104 percent compared to the 389 weapons seized during the same period last year. Overall, all law enforcement agencies in the state reported 3,166 gun seizures compared to 2,181 during the same period last year, an increase of 45 percent.

About Bail Law

When asked about the report presented on Wednesday by the authorities of the Big Apple pointing to the cracks in the penal system for letting certain criminals loose, Governor Kathy Hochul said: “I agree that those repeat offenders should not have been left behind. free”.

However, the governor gave no indication whether she will call a special session in Albany to review the bail law. “I am also an impatient person, but situations like this need time.”

Hochul assured that he has spoken with Mayor Eric Adams to provide him with the support that is needed in relation to citizen security. “I have told him that if they need more state officers patrolling the subway to fight crime, they will be there.”

For the Adams Administration, judges must have the ability to keep violent and career criminals behind bars awaiting trial.

Instead, the defenders of the Bail Law assure that there is a very low level of recidivism that does not exceed 1% of those released throughout the state.
