Illegal Dog Breeder in Brabant Continues Business Despite Council of State Ruling

An illegal dog breeder in Eersel in Brabant refuses to stop his business despite a ruling by the Council of State. He must pay a penalty of 2,500 euros for the fourth time in a row.

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) carried out an inspection on Wednesday and found 173 dogs on the breeder’s premises. The service has not removed any animals from the breeder. Last week there were still 180 dogs on the property.

At the beginning of February, the Council of State decided that the dog breeder had to close his business by mid-March at the latest. The man had too many dogs that he didn’t take good care of. Nevertheless, he decided to keep breeding open.

Since the end of March, the municipality has been checking every week whether there are still dogs on the site. For each violation, 2,500 euros will be imposed. The total penalty can amount to 25,000 euros. If the man has still not stopped his business after ten weeks, the municipality can take other measures.

The NVWA purchased 435 dogs from the breeder during an earlier inspection. The animals were in bad shape. The administration of the breeding company was also not in order.
