“At the moment, there is a procedure with Bulgaria, the audit continues, they are looking at the expenditures that were made for 2015 under the Program for Rural Areas, and there are remarks regarding the regularity of the projects, and also regarding public procurement.” This was stated by the MEP from the left and member of the IB of the BSP Iliana Yotova on Nova TV, who received these answers from the European Commission. According to the words, this answer immediately excludes the possibility that all funds have been paid by the EC at the moment. “The answer that all the funds were received from the EU are simply not true”, she was categorical.
Iliana Yotova explained that she received an answer from the EC, not from her spokesperson, to her three specific questions. The questions are the following – whether there will be financial corrections under the Program for Rural Areas for Bulgaria, what are the most common mistakes to require such a correction and what will be the amount that will not be paid to our country. She explained that she asked the questions at the insistence of some of the Bulgarian municipalities, some of them small. “People are worried that if serious sanctions and corrections are imposed, a part of these municipalities will face bankruptcy,” the MEP was categorical.
Iliana Yotova explained that Bulgaria has a procedure under two regulations. “Both regulations define how mistakes will be punished for the unfinished work in Bulgaria, because the EC says it has not received reasonable assurance about how the payment agency of the Agriculture Fund has paid the projects in the country and there is not enough information about this. The Certification Authority does not accept the report either. I say that the EC will impose financial sanctions. And the 1.1 billion in question is a collected amount,” she also said.
