Two earthquakes with a difference of a few seconds occurred in the Ionian sea area off Pylos on Friday morning, with the tremors being particularly felt as far away as Athens, but also in Crete.

The focal depth of the first tremor was 15.4 kilometers and its epicenter was 21 kilometers east of Strofades.

The order has already been given to check all the schools in the area of ​​Zaharos, however, so far no serious damage has been reported in the area.

Twin earthquakes are a rare phenomenon

Twin earthquakes do not appear for the first time in our country, however, they are not a common phenomenon.

The last time experts observed a twin earthquake was in the Elassona earthquakes in 2021, which had a magnitude of 5.9, while before that, the last observation of the phenomenon was in 2014 with twin earthquakes in Kefalonia.

Earlier today there was a 3.8 Richter earthquake in Drama as well. Specifically, the earthquake occurred north northwest of Prasinada Drama. The focal depth of the seismic vibration is located at 10 kilometers.
