In Bréhat, the new municipality has chosen to invest in a new compactor to treat household waste before its repatriation on the continent.
A Bréhat, the budget of household garbage and waste will weigh € 1,360,000 across the mandate with a pivotal year in 2022 which will be marked by the purchase of a compactor for 350 000 € but also by thedevelopment of the Corderie.
This is a complex issue specific to all the islands: the cost of waste treatment which necessarily includes repatriation to the mainland and a volume that increases with the tourist season.
No increase in TEOM
The new municipality has just confirmed the choice of a compactor which will be purchased in 2022. The year 2021 will mainly be a year of studies.
We will start to really invest in equipment in 2022. There will be no increase in the household waste collection tax, which is already quite high. We absolutely have to cut costs to free up cash flow.
To ensure this budget, a loan of € 910,000 is planned over 20 years, with gross savings stabilized at € 50,000 per year.
Continue the project
The new municipality is therefore taking over the project of the old team, which involves investing in a household waste compactor before transporting it to the mainland.
Given the equipment (amplirolls) used by the Smitred, waste can only leave the Corderie. From there, we’ll need to get all the clearances. But it is in this sense that we are continuing this project. If we invest, it is to ultimately reduce operating and transport costs.
For 2021, the household waste budget provides for € 60,000 for study, € 10,000 for voluntary collection points and € 40,000 for column equipment:
We need adequate equipment for the emptying of the column, the employees work in borderline conditions.
Other investments
140,000 € per year in 2022 and 2023 are proposed for the development of La Corderie.
For the transport of waste, this is € 100,000 per year planned for 2022 and 2023.
In 2024, an investment of € 100,000 to safeguard the press building is budgeted. And in 2025, € 150,000 for the establishment of a green waste station equipped with a shredder.
