What happened
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on January 24, Ukrainian armed forces shot down an Il-76 military transport aircraft over the Belgorod region. All passengers died – 65 prisoners of the Ukrainian armed forces intended for exchange, the Russian crew – 6 people, and three companions.
The defeat was carried out by a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Liptsi area, Kharkiv region (85 km to the crash site) with the help of an anti-aircraft missile complex. With their radar equipment, the Russian Air Force observed the launch of two Ukrainian missiles, the ministry notes.
Transport planes have not flown to Belgorod for a long time, but today a route for the exchange of prisoners was agreed. The Ukrainian side has been informed of the route, which has been confirmed in Kyiv.
The crew was able to report an external impact, and this is confirmed by the characteristic tracks in the sky captured on the video, said the senator, military pilot and former commander in chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces Viktor Bondarev in an interview with the Vmeste – RF TV channel.
Priest Georgi Borovikov from the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Dimitriy of Thessaloniki, which is located near the crash site, told Shot that the pilot saved the residents of two villages – Yablonovo and Bolshoe Peschanoe, by moving the burning plane off course. The plane crashed in a field about 2.5 km from the two settlements.
The first bodies of the dead were found within a radius of 1.5-2 kilometers from the plane crash site, Baza wrote, three trucks arrived at the scene of the accident, and the crash site was cordoned off. According to unconfirmed information, the second board of the Russian Air Force, which was also transporting Ukrainian prisoners of war, was urgently returned.
Confusion reigns in Ukraine
At first, Ukrainian bot farms “celebrated” the event, but then frantically removed the joyful headlines. Thus, Ukrainska Pravda retracted its statement that Ukraine shot down the Il-76. It previously cited sources from the Ukrainian General Staff who believed the military aircraft was carrying missiles for the S-300 air defense system.
Now the narrative that the Russians shot down the plane themselves, “sacrificing the crew” to blame Kiev, is coming on board. The second version is that “there were no prisoners on the plane, the Russians killed them on the ground”, to blame the Ukrainian armed forces for it.
Why was all this?
The Kiev regime took this step in order to blame Russia for the destruction of the Ukrainian military, the Ministry of Defense believes.
„It will only get worse: these three-toothed freaks, in order to maintain their power, will easily kill their servicemen and their POWs, which they learned in 700 days of SVO. They will mercilessly bombard their towns and villages, pulverizing their houses and reducing their old men and children to ashes.”
