IKN Development Curator, Ridwan Kamil (RK), said the National Capital of the Archipelago (IKN) was the desire of the nation from the time of the 1st President Sukarno to the 2nd President Suharto. However, this wish was only executed during the current era of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
RK said this answered netizens’ questions about whether the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) was Jokowi’s wish. RK dismissed it, saying that the plan dates back to the Soekarno era, when the initial plan for IKN was to be built in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan (Central Kalimantan).
“Well, the Indonesian version of IKN is not by Pak Jokowi. From the start it has been by Bung Karno. Bung Karno’s IKN is in Palangkaraya. If someone says this to netizens, ‘oh this is Pak Jokowi’, no,” said RK at the Vision Sustainability Strategy Discussion event. IKN and the Transformation of Jakarta’, in Menteng, Central Jakarta (Jakpus), Friday (22/12/2023).
However, the development of IKN in Palangkaraya is not possible after study. Then during the era of the 2nd President Soeharto, plans arose to move the IKN development to Jonggol, West Java (West Java). However, that plan failed.
“From the time of Bung Karno, the IKN option was reviewed in Palangkaraya because the situation didn’t allow it to happen. During Pak Harto’s era, the IKN was changed again, the IKN was in Jonggol, there were lots of land brokers in Jonggol. Eh, that didn’t happen, wow now there are big losses “I understand,” he explained.
RK emphasized that IKN was the desire of the nation from the time of Soekarno and Suharto. Then, during the Jokowi era, the momentum was there until Penajam Pasir Regency, East Kalimantan was chosen as the location for the current IKN development.
“This answers ‘IKN is Pak Jokowi’s wish’ isn’t it, IKN is the wish of the nation from the Sukarno era, from the Soeharto era. Coincidentally, it was during Pak Jokowi’s era that the momentum was there, the one in the middle was chosen, called Penajam Paser Utara (PPU),” he said.
“Why not in Palangkaraya? Because in the middle you need to go to the sea a little bit. In the middle but there is the sea, so the PPU was chosen which is near the City Hall,” he said.
RK also reiterated that the IKN plan existed from the Old Order to the New Order era. However, IKN was only implemented during the Jokowi era.
“So this answers that IKN has been around since the colonial era, from the old order era, the new order era, it was only implemented in the era of Pak Jokowi,” he concluded.
This was stated by RK in the discussion event ‘Sustainability Strategy for the IKN Vision and Transformation of Jakarta’ in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Friday (22/12).
